It’s clear that these key regulatory bodies are working hard to solidify robust procedures, and to ensure that each operator on the new market complies with their responsible gambling rules. Operators will need to work closely with RGC to uphold the agreement, with regular reviews and audits taking place to enforce high standards across the board. For operators, it’s a sign that Alberta has learned from more mature markets, and intends to build a lasting and sustainable model, which is certainly a positive sign overall. It should also boost the confidence of players in Alberta, as I think what this really shows is that player protections are being taken seriously, and will be built-in to the Albertan market from the very beginning.

The launch is just around the corner and there are definitely a few things Albertans can do to prepare ahead of time. Ahead of the market opening, I’d recommend that players take the time to explore responsible gambling tools and familiarize themselves with the different kinds of support available, as this will enable them to start out on the right footing and choose the platforms that provide a high standard of player protections. Additionally, they’ll need to start looking out for news and announcements about newly licensed operators in Alberta, so they can keep up with the latest arrivals on the scene and assess the different options as they come in. Obviously the exact timings are still up in the air, but it’s looking like summer 2026 will be the most likely window for the market launch, which is pretty soon!
